From the days they could crawl, Taryn was fascinated by the computer. The network was the connection to the rest of the world, the lifeblood that kept them pumping. A CS degree was the least stressful degree they ever gained, and eventually they were hired as an ethical hacker by several major firms.

The night before the Tokyo incident, Taryn was celebrating. They were to head to a tech jam with Orochi the next morning. A challenge to see if anyone could break their next encryption level. As they were downing drinks, Tokyo was drowning in Filth. Realizing they had no tech jam, Taryn returned home with a hangover that would level a city. Two weeks later, the bees brought the hacker into the fold.
